Tips for Brides 101

It’s genuinely true what they say.

To have the perfect makeup, you need a great base for it to sit on.

It’s all good and well thinking that makeup can cover everything. But let’s be real here, it won’t change your skin. I mean it when I say, you’ll feel so much more amazing if your skin looks great beneath your makeup. It creates a much more flawless finish!

The best thing you can do ahead your big day is to start taking care of your skin from the outside AND the inside. This is going to put you in the best stead possible to have skin to be proud of, and a smoother canvas for your makeup to look flawless on your Wedding Day. You can even get the groom involved in this too!

Tip 1) Skincare Supplements.

Supplements are widely available now for majority of things ranging from bone health, fitness boosters, muscle recovery etc etc… But did you know there are amazing supplements out there that target the skin?

If you aren’t already clued up on how incredibly valuable taking supplements can be, then I’ll fill you in.

We physically cannot get all of the goodness our body needs from food and water alone. Not many of us are eating freshly grown veg, picked that day. By the time fruit and veg and other food with great vitamins and minerals land on our plates, they’ve been treated, preserved, shipped, stored, cooked and majority of the goodness just isn’t in it anymore. This isn’t to say that eating these foods are bad, far from it, of course they’re still good for you, but they simply don’t hold enough of what the skin needs in one portion to make a big difference to how the skin is behaving.

You’d also need to be eating a shed load of certain food groups to even touch the sides with what the skin truly needs to be healthy which is totally unrealistic for everyday life.

The best way to think about skin supplements, is imagine taking all the vitamins and minerals out of certain food groups, and making them into a tablet form. For example it’s not a tablet that tastes like a piece of broccoli, it’s simply the goodness from the broccoli in a tablet.

I highly recommend the Advanced Nutrition Programme Supplements. These bad boys are all designed to have a much higher volume of vitamins and minerals to target the skin (whilst still being exceptionally safe), meaning that your other internal organs aren’t just going to drink up all the goodness and not leave any goodness to the skin (like some other high street brands do.)

For example, Vitamin C is incredible for the immune system, as well as playing a key part in a bright even complexion and assisting collagen formation in the skin (great for anti-ageing.) in a general medium sized orange, you’ll generally find 70mg of Vitamin C. You can get supplements of 1000mg of vitamin C and it’s perfectly safe. This is equivalent of over 14 oranges… I mean, please tell me the last time you managed to eat 14 oranges in 1 day… if you did, I doubt your stomach would thank you for the acid content.

Depending on what you’re trying to target depends on which supplements your skin needs.

The other important fact about skincare supplements is that they feed the lower layers of the skin that our topical products can’t reach with these important ingredients. When we rub products into the skin, it will only ever absorb down to around 20% of the skin layers. When you take skincare supplements, you are feed the lower 80% of skin cells. This leads to a 100%, 360 degree approach to treating your skin!

Which leads me on to… top tip number 2…

2) SKINCARE

It’s an obvious one, but I come across people on the daily that admit to not applying their lotions and potions regularly - If you can relate to that sentence, listen up! It genuinely makes a huge difference.

1) No skincare will work on unclean skin. Start by giving your face a good cleanse, whether you’ve been wearing makeup or not, let’s ensure there isn’t any dirt, grime or surface oils on the skin before you start rubbing things in for the sake of it. Cleansing morning and night refreshes the skin, removes anything blocking the pores, and allows any following products to do their job correctly. Please don’t waste your money on any type of moisturisers if you’re skipping the cleanse. You may as well cut a hole in your pocket and fill it with pound coins.

2) Moisturise. (you might be thinking, but Amy, you’ve missed out toner!) Yes toner is an excellent add on, but if you’re new to skincare, I’m telling you the most important steps. A moisturiser with active ingredients is a must, and Vitamin A is the best out there. BUT, something is better than nothing. Get that skin hydrated!

Do this morning and evening to keep your skin fresh and hydrated. Active ingredients in your moisturiser - bonus points for you.

Eye gels, and skin serums are also wonderful and my go-to products, but complete the fundamentals above first, get into a good routine, and then consider upping your game. This shouldn’t be a pre-wedding fad, it’s a healthy way to treat your skin daily.

I LOVE the Environ products, which is a brand I’m personally trained with and I’m always happy to give advice on which ones would be best suited to you ahead of your wedding makeup with me.

In a nutshell,

Skincare supplements alongside skincare products. I couldn’t live without them now.

They truly make such a difference and for anyone wanting a great base on their wedding day, and getting started with these simple things will truly change your skin for the better.

I’d recommend starting 3-6 months before the wedding to give enough time to reset the skin and make improvements!
